Dr. Zaid Alaa Hussien is a seasoned academic and researcher currently serving as the Dean of the Management Technical College at Southern Technical University in Basrah, Iraq. With a strong background in computer engineering and information technology, Dr. Hussien earned his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), China, in 2017.
Over the years, he has held several academic and administrative roles, including Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies and Head of the Information Technology Department. His leadership has played a vital role in advancing academic quality, curriculum development, and the adoption of modern teaching frameworks such as the Bologna process.
Dr. Hussien’s research interests lie in cloud–IoT security, lightweight cryptographic protocols, elliptic-curve cryptography, encrypted image retrieval, and secure communication in UAV and healthcare environments. With more than 49 peer-reviewed publications, over 500 citations, and an h-index of 17, his scholarly contributions are well-recognized in the academic community. He has published in internationally indexed journals such as Applied Sciences, IEEE Access, and Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing.
In addition to his research and teaching roles, Dr. Hussien is actively involved in supervising graduate students, organizing international conferences, and participating in scientific and academic committees. His dedication to academic excellence and innovation continues to shape the next generation of technology leaders in Iraq and beyond.
